Comments: (6/1/08) - "Scott and Janet were friendly and available. Did a great job offering a large arena for our tired horse. Would recommend.". . . (4/23/13) - "My 2 year old filly was being transported from BC, Canada to PA, USA when the transporter had truck problems. It was a week before another shipping company was able to pick her up. In the interim I feel that Scott kept my filly calm, happy and healthy. When she did finally roll home she was in excellent condition both physically and mentally. Thank you so much Scott for taking the time with my filly and keeping me informed of how she was doing!". . . (8/10/14) - "Easy access from I-80. Scott met us at the intersection near his ranch and lead us in. He gave Dancer fresh water and a large indoor round pen to roll in and stretch his legs. The place was clean, well lit. Scott was friendly and helpful; we parked right next to Dancers door and plugged in. And the rates were very reasonable. We plan on staying there again on our return trip.". . . (9/15/16) - "Very nice facility. Scott met me when I arrived. Very accommodating. Clean & safe stalls. Parked 52 ft. rig in front of the barn with 30 amp electric available. Will use again when traveling. Great place to overnight!!". . . (7/9/17) - "Very nice. Very friendly. Very convenient.". . . (5/21/19) - "A bit dusty, but an excellent facility for an efficient layover... camper hookups, truckstop and motel right there next to the exit. Scott was friendly and helpful. Recommend and will use again in the future.". . . (8/21/19) - "We had to make an emergency stop and they were kind enough to make room for us even though they were full. They had a round pen we could use for the horses and provided a generator for us to have electricity.". . . (10/12/19) - "I LOVED that my horse could have an entire arena to chill in after a long haul from Colorado to our 1/2 way point in Iowa. It was exactly what a horse should have after being stuck in a trailer for hours. I will stop here again.". . . (7/31/20) - "Scott has a beautiful place for your horses to stay, Truly out in the country, he gave us the huge indoor stall for our horses to enjoy the night out. Found a wonderful restaurant in town and a hotel is just down the street.. highly recommended!". . . (7/23/21) - "We stayed at Westphalen Quarter Horses on our way home from Wyoming. Scott was great to work with and had a variety of choices of lodging for us to choose for our horses. From a good sized indoor arena to a few outside pens, or large stalls. I would highly recommend their farm.". . . (8/23/21) - "Great location close to I-80, clean stalls/paddocks, good power hook ups for LQ trailers, quiet location close to fuel/food, great people running the place. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!"

(Editor's Comments): Due to the large amount of feedback we have received on this facility, all of it positive, we've posted only the more recent comments. We thank everybody who has sent in so many nice comments.)
(5/12/21) - "Wonderful place for your horse. Dora was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this facility. I would rate it a 10.". . . (6/30/21) - "Amazing, wonderful, caring, and kind generous people. They treated us like family, knew how to handle horses, dove right in to help us at every turn. And we arrived during a special family function, yet they dropped everything to help us. Same amazing help in the morning when we needed to reload. Beautiful paddock was waiting, fresh water in place, and we could back our trailer right up to it to unload. Could not have asked for anything better! We could go rest in the hotel, that they found for us, and know the horses were safe and happy. These folks deserve 10 stars!!". . . (11/6/21) - "This facility is nothing short of fabulous. The owners were so incredibly friendly and helpful. We arrived after a very long day/drive and they calmed us immediately with their kindness toward both us and our horse. They assisted us in every way possible. Wonderful facility!!" . . . (4/1/22) - "Thank you Jose and Dora for accommodating us on short notice!". . . (5/1/22) - "As a solo woman traveling through, I felt so welcome and safe here! My horses were able to go out on a safe pasture with a run in shelter, my dog was able to safely play in the yard, and the parking was really easy for my rig. Dora was so warm and welcoming! Safety is really important to me and I was able to relax and feel like part of the family! Thank you Dora!". . . (5/5/22) - "Because we got delayed, we didn't arrive at Dora's until after dark. When we did arrive Dora was at the end of the driveway to greet us. Because it was dark and had never been there, this was greatly appreciated. We were originally going to have our horse in a paddock but because it was already dark we were uncomfortable turning her out in a larger unfamiliar darker area. We then asked Dora about other possibilities and jointly decided that initially a smaller lit paddock (where we could see her and she could see her surroundings) was a better idea. It was also colder than expected so after she self-exercised, we moved her into a stall for the night. In the stall she could see other horses and settled in nicely. Dora was extremely flexible with our change of plans and made us feel very welcomed. The paddock was nice and the stall was clean. She had a bag of shavings for us and had water in the clean buckets. The stall was solidly built. It was a very short drive off of interstate 35 and was easy to find. We would absolutely recommend this place and plan on staying there again.". . . (5/14/22) - "Marvelous people! Clean, safe stalls. Knowledgeable owners. Great communication per text/phone. I couldn't be more pleased. Dora, you are wonderful to work with.". . . (5/19/22) - "Zippy, Smokie and our 2 goats were well treated and happily enjoyed the green grass in their paddock. Owner immediately added a freshly cleaned water tank for our animals and made sure our animals were secure and happy. They provided a nice spot to park our trailer for the night also. Thanks so much, you made our trip to our new home easier.". . . (9/1/22) - "Dora and her family were very nice and attentive to us. They were welcoming to us, our mules, and our pets. We spent two nights with them. During our full day stay we went to the farm progress show. Dora made sure to check in on our animals and water them as needed. Location of the facility is great being right off the interstate and close to restaurants and such. We had.plenty of room to get our rig in and out. If we are ever traveling through the area again, we won't hesitate to stay there again.". . . (10/25/22) - "Dora and Jose are super friendly and accommodating. They had beautiful property and paddocks for our horses. The shelter was nice. Jose even filled our water for our horses. They cleaned up after our horses so we could leave and be on our way home. It was SUPER convenient to be right off the major highways and gas stations. I would highly recommend this Horse Hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable stay for both horses and humans. Thanks Dora and Jose. We'll be back.". . . (9/4/23) - "Excellent place to layover, nice clean stall with a new bag of shavings. Our weanling had a great snooze. Super friendly host who helped us get our supper local and delivered. Thanks so very much!"

Comments: (7/14/22) - "Very nice & clean place with friendly & accommodating hosts! Big stalls with rubber mats & they had our stalls ready for our horses. Would definitely stay there again!". . . (7/23/22) - "Facility is beautiful and clean ! Owners were super nice people; very accommodating. Would absolutely come back here for a layover.". . . (10/25/22) - "This barn is awesome. The owners were there even though we arrived late. Kind and patient, they gave us the rundown and even offered up their camper for showers. Stalls were spotless. We stayed on site and the barn was quiet and clean. We will be here on every east/west run!". . . . (6/4/23) - "Wonderful facility. Host was there to meet us. Clean and well taken care of. Horses loved the round pen to roll and relax. Definitely would use this again.". . . (6/19/23) - "Amy and Wayne were amazing. The facility felt just like home. The stalls were large and clean. Camping for our 5 rigs was great and they even had sweet snacks and water for us to snack on! 5 star for sure."

Comments: (7/13/17) - "Very clean facility. Owner takes pride in his work and it shows. Even his boarders were friendly and nice. Stalls were clean and well bedded when we arrived". . . (8/21/19) - "Excellent stables for the horses. This place is more for people that want to board their horse than what it is for the people that are traveling and need an overnight stay. The people were very nice and did have hook ups in the barn for us to have electricity for the night.". . . (10/12/19) - "EXACTLY what I had in mind as I stayed overnight. Will stay again next time I'm in the area.". . . (2/3/20) - "Very nice stall, auto waterers, large indoor for exercise. We came in January in bad weather and after dark. They were awesome and got us tucked in. Also, we were unable to travel the next day and they were kind enough to let us stay another night. We stayed at the B and B so we were with our horses through the day. Our experience was excellent.". . . (8/3/21) - "Winds Reach Farm in Iowa City, Iowa was a great location, however, the driveway i n was a bit rough and then when I wanted to hook up, boarders were blocking the only hook-up so we didn't. Stalls were well bedded with straw, but it's not a great idea health wise to share auto-waterers in between stalls with horses coming and going. It's also not a good idea to have your horse touch noses with a horse that it doesn't know. I would suggest asking if they have stalls further away from boarder horses as they put mine right beside the boarders. The owner was nice via phone and text but I never met him, just his barn worker who showed me around and was really f riendly. Overall, nice place to stay, just go slow in their driveway to avoid pot-holes and maybe ask if your horses can be away from others. The facility looked a bit nicer on Facebook and this site. The barn is a bit dark, and dusty but it seemed like the barn worker was trying to clean it up."

Comments: (8/3/20) - "I had the most amazing time at singing Mesa Ranch with my Andalusian gelding. We were supposed to stay for one night; instead we stayed for three nights because it was so incredible. If you’re passing through Lucas, Iowa you have to just lay over there. This ranch will feed your and your horse's soul.". . . (10/9/21) - "We only needed a one night layover. Very friendly site, clean facilities. We did not ride their trails, but did walk some of them to stretch our legs. Hilly, wooded, winding trails looked like they would be fun to ride.". . . (7/15/22) - "Highly recommend SMR. Amazing hostesses, clean, friendly, easy to camp and turn around. Great arenas, in & outdoor stalls (even heated in winter). Very affordable & accessible trails on & off property. 4**** place!!"

Comments: (11/19/17) - "I'm a professional transport company and this is one of my go to places. Love Diane!". . . (4/13/18) - "This place has GREAT things to do while staying here!! I rode the levy everyday and LOVED the pleasant ride among wildlife and water fowl. If interested in fishing it's the place to put in a boat or a kayak to fish or simply EXPLORE the multiple river channels. I would look forward to a stay here any chance I get. Crystal.". . . (5/21/18) - "Easy access for a big rig. The stalls are exceptionally clean and the friendliness of the host exceeded expectations. Will be back.". . . (8/29/18) - "Top notch facility - also had turnouts for the horses for awhile and great stalls - nice level and large area for overnight hook-ups. Definitely will use this as an overnight again.". . . (9/3/18) - "Awesome place to overnight. Very clean Diane and Doug are the best!! I definitely recommend.". . . (7/7/19) - "Diane was a great host and once the home is complete on this property it is going to be amazing! We were able to turn our two horses out in a spare pasture for a bit once we arrived. The stalls were clean and there was enough bedding supplied to even satisfy my horse! Thank you for the layover opportunity. There is a lot of room for multiple rigs at this place!". . . (12/21/21) - "This was my first stay at a horse motel and it was perfect! Diane was very helpful and flexible as I planned my trip in September, putting up with my nervousness and giving great advice. The human accommodations were luxurious and very clean, even including breakfast. I wish I had arrived earlier to relax and enjoy the setting more. The horse accommodations were also perfect and safe. I’ll stay here again when venturing that way!". . . (8/17/22) - "We stay in our LQ trailer & were exhausted on our arrival. The owner was positively lovely. The barn were beautiful. If we stayed longer there are lots of trails, indoor arena & shower stalls for our horses. We had electric.". . . (6/19/23) - "Great place for a layover. The facilities were awesome and a welcome after a long day on the road. It's nice that they do the chores for you, too, so that you can be on your way. 5 star for sure.". . . (7/18/23) - "A great place to pull off. Next to the highway and easy access in and out. The host is very friendly and helpful. It’s a beautiful and clean facility. Nice arena and exercise track outside. I’ll be staying here whenever I get the chance and she has the availability.". . . (8/31/23) - "Diane and Doug were so good to us. I can't say enough good things about this facility. It was my 18 year old daughter and myself headed to Colorado for her college from New York so to have zero stress in our stop was so appreciated. The place is absolutely beautiful, Diane makes an awesome breakfast. Don't hesitate to stop there in your travels."

Comments: (9/11/21) - "Good place for an overnight as it is just 10 minutes off I-29 and easy access to Nebraska City if you need fuel or food. No covered stalls, but we put both of our horses in one large paddock with grass which they much enjoyed. Right now, only one water hose, no water hookups, but host indicated they are working on that, so will be a nice enhancement. You do have to carry water to the horse pens, but we filled a large one a quarter full, then used another to fill up with two more trips, plenty of water for overnight. Note that at certain times of year, you will deal with mosquitoes! We did not ride as we were just stopping over on our way to ND, but very pretty area, saw lots of turkeys and a deer on our way out. Probably really pretty in the fall! I marked neutral on 24 hour security because we were right near our horses and no cameras, etc, if that is what you want. Isolated, so can’t imagine there would be any problems.". . . (7/7/22) - "Lona and Jack are the perfect hosting team. The whole facility was incredible. Nice turn out for our equine and the bunk house where we stayed was INCREDIBLE! We decided to take a day off the road and stayed there two days and rode on their property. So picture perfect. When we head back that way in the fall we will be stopping at Horse Creek Adventures for 2-3 days. A+++++"
