Comments: (Due to the many comments we've received on this facility, all positive, for space purposes we've had to remove some of the earlier comments)
(4/9/05) - "The horse pens were safe & roomy, the water was fresh, the hosts were very congenial & sent home-made cookies with us, and I would recommend a stay there to anyone.". . .(8/22/06) - "John and Janie are excellent hosts, going out of their way to accommodate guests. The location is atop a knoll where the west Texas breeze mitigates even the most demanding summer sun. It doesn't matter if you're travelling east/west or north/south, if your lay-over demands a night anywhere near Abilene...the seasoned horseowner will select Blue Horse Stables. The accessibility afforded by circling the house, unloading stock and backing rigs directly into the camper hook-ups is excellent, even for large rigs and accommodates Blue Horse's efforts to keep the grounds immaculate. The drive from the road up the hill to the house is discriminately maintained and easily accessible from both interstate and US highways.". . .(11/15/06) - "I had to laugh at proximty of "human" food.... they baked cookies for Walt while they were waiting for him to get there. Doesn't get better than that and it was indicative of their entire attitude and dedication to your comfort. He got there fairly late, 11ish, and they were right out there ready to help him offload and load up again in the morning. Could not ask for more in a horse hotel. Great find and we will be back.". . .(12/12/06) - "Could not have been a better experience for me and Moonpye. The cookies were delicious. Thanks.". . .(1/24/07) - "John and Janie were awesome hosts. We would definitely recommend staying here for a goodnights rest. Janie also makes the BEST sugar cookies we've ever had. Thanks for the great nights sleep!". . .(2/8/07) - "John and Janie are wonderful! The ranch is easy to find, and no worries about our horses. We highly recommend them, and would not hesitate to leave horses there for any amount of time. Very helpful. Texas hospitality!!". . .(5/11/07) - "If you ever break down, make sure you break down in Abilene, TX. Our truck broke down and we called John and Jannie last minute. We had our truck and trailer towed to the Blue Horse Stables. They greeted us with cookies and a smile. We stayed six days while the truck got fixed. They had a 100 acres for us to ride, pond for fishing and they welcomed our dogs. A must stay for people passing through TX.". . .(9/26/07) - "I read all the past comments and agree with them wholeheartedly. We stayed 2 times - heading east in July 07 and back west in Sept. John & Janie are real downhome friendly people - like family. They treated "Dazi" (and us) so well we'll be back! Cookies are also the best! Thanks, John & Janie!". . .(12/3/07) - "These guys were great - very friendly and available! They gave us advice on local roads and it's true, those cookies are amazing!". . . (2/20/09) - "They were the nicest people on the planet. We arrived late and they were there to help us! Everything was handled safely, quickly and with ease. Best hotel I have stayed at, HANDS DOWN! They even made fresh cookies in the morning and gave us some. Definitely my number one recommendation!". . . (4/13/09) - "Great stay again...highly recommended! Thanks, John and Janie! I'll be back next time I'm in Abilene." . . . (2/6/11) - "John Tucher was a wonderful host, friendly, helpful and enjoyable to visit with. The accommodations were great! Janie's homemade cookies were awesome! We could not wait for those and John's smiling face when we came back through the next week.". . . (4/23/11) - "Wonderful hosts, even had home-made cookies for us! I would go there any time, with any horse for the friendliness and care we were shown!". . . (12/8/11) - "The Tucher's couldn't be any nicer or any more accommodating when we rolled in after dark for an overnight stay in November 2011. My travel schedule was not set in stone, but they were willing to accommodate whatever schedule I had. They provided me with a large pen to turn-out my horse after a full day of traveling and then a large stall, already set up with water, to spend the night in. They suggested hotel and restaurant accommodations for us, and we felt 100% comfortable that the horse was safe and in good hands at Blue Horse Stables. The next morning, the Tuchers really "tripped our trigger" by sending us off with a plate full of homemade cookies covered in blue frosting.". . . (2/16/12) - "We have overnighted horses at least 4 different times in the last year, arriving at all times of day & night. The Tucher's have always been very accommodating and friendly. Feel confident our horses are safe. Highly recomend!". . . (4/26/12) - "John was awesome and the runs for the horses were perfect! They had plenty of room to move around after a long day and even got more turnout the next morning. I highly recommend!". . . (10/15/12) - "Great hosts, great place! Would definitely stay again!". . . (11/13/12) - "We are a horse transport company. All of our trucks overnight at John and Janie's. They are always welcoming and accommodating. Their facilities are always well maintained. We recommend them to anyone who is traveling through the area. Last but not least, do not forget the great cookies. Jimmy Parlier.". . . (12/31/12) - "Ranch address was correct for gps, John always answered the phone and was there to meet us (along with Patches and Red) even tho we pulled in well after 8 pm in the dark, cold Dec. night. We were able to park our trailer just outside the barn and were comfortable there for the night. John was ready to help us load a little mare that didn't want to go a fourth day! Would recommend this facility to anyone traveling west Texas.". . . (1/31/13) - "John was a fantastic host! Greeted us and helped us settle in on a cold, late night arrival. Cookies were so welcomed. Easy accommodations. Highly recommended. Loved his dogs too!". . . (5/29/13) - "This is a great place to stay with your horses (we have 4). It's Very Clean! The Tucher's are wonderful and knowledgable hosts. The stables/run-ins are beautifully made and we would stay there again anytime. We highly recommend this stable and appreciate the Tucher's offering it to travelers.". . . (2/23/14) - "John was so accommodating even upon late arrival. Very reasonable prices but can't say enough about the hospitality!! A rare trait that was very much appreciated. Very adequate facilities; not fancy but a fantastic place. Recommend to anyone who appreciates the important things.". . . (5/4/14) - "Blue Horse is one of those places you realize is more than a layover. Somewhere along the line it became a welcome visit with old friends. Walt has been stopping there for well over a decade and it has become an oasis on a long pull. The view from the front porch is hard to leave. Easy access and easy company. Coast to coast planning becomes easier when you find a place worth aiming at. I can't even tell you how many times we have been there. Now if I could just get Janie to bake sugar free cookies......lol.". . . (5/10/14) - "Great place, lots of room, will stay there again."

Comments: (8/18/09) - "Just wanted to drop a note of THANKS to, Amarillo Horse Boarding, Golden Horse Training Center, Leon Robertson, TX. We stayed at Golden Horse Training Center on our way out from Florida to New Mexico for the National High School Rodeo Finals. The place was not hard to find, even with all the road construction, and Mr. Leon and his wife were very nice people. The facility is great; very big with a covered arena and closed in stalls. VERY! VERY! NEATLY KEPT! We had a little problem with our AC in the truck and Mr Leon took a look at it for us. Talking with him we found out that he is a Jack of all Trades and even a Master at some. THANK YOU VERY MUCH MR LEON!! See you next time we come thru your way.". . . (10/25/09) - "Thursday October 22, 2009. Arrived late and were met by Leon Robertson. The stalls were clean, Leon was fabulously helpful, and our stay was the high-point of the day. We have been in the horse business for 40 years and wholeheartedly recommend Golden Horse Training Center for your layover.". . . (11/18/09) - "Leon was very helpful and gave us several options as to where we wanted to put our mare. We settled on an outside stall with a covered area where she had plenty of room to move. Showers were great and it was a quiet place to spend the night.". . . (3/30/12) - "Leon was extremely nice and helpful and was available when we needed him. My two horses were turned out in a large area together so they had plenty of room which was great after a long day in the trailer. Everything we needed was there and it was clean and secure. I felt very comfortable leaving my horses there overnight and I would highly recommend this facility to people traveling in Amarillo with horses."(7/25/12) - "Great facility with a variety of stall options: stalls only, pens with sheds, sheds with large runs, etc. Owner was very friendly and helpful. Suggested a good hotel in the area. He lives on site and was out to see us off early the next morning. We will stay again if in the area.". . . (10/11/12) - "Leon was there to meet us at the gate. The run for my horse was great. Leon was very helpful when I needed information on getting another tire for my trailer (2nd blowout). When I did not arrive when expected he even called to see if everything was ok. A great host.". . . (1/26/13) - "Leon was a saint. I had never hauled LONG distance before and I over estimated my drive for that day (Plus I forgot about the time change). I drove from Flagstaff AZ to Amarillo in one day (too long for me and a really old horse) We got in after midnight (I thought it was 10:00..sorry Leon). Leon kept in phone contact with me the entire time for about the last 4 hours of our drive, guiding through town, and then around his ranch. The horses were fed, settled and bedded in 15 minutes flat! My rig (over 50 ft) was turned around and plugged in to electricity (hot, needed air conditioning), with chores done in another 10, and we all fell into bed. What a great host! When I woke in the morning I realized how beautiful, clean and organized his place really is. I recommend it to anyone going cross country...especially us newbie haulers. (08/2012).". . . (6/1/13) - "This by far is the best horse hotel we have ever stayed at. The hosts treat you like family. Horses get spoiled. We will be back."

Comments: (4/1/04) - "I can always count on the best friendly customer service ever with Penny. They always remember who I am year to year. The grounds are well cared for as are the accommodations. I highly recommend Penny and her motel.". . .(12/11/04) - "We always try to make this stop going and coming. The stalls and barn are among the best of any facility. You can even plug in to their pole for hook-ups and stay on-site. Safe, easy access, great barn and stalls.". . .(3/30/05) - "We were hauling Miniature Herefords to a show in Austin, TX . . . Our animals really enjoyed the very clean and well-maintained stalls and pipe runs, . . . we stayed overnight in their on-property western-themed "Bunkhouse"...absolutely delightfully comfy, very clean and spacious accommodations! (could sleep up to 4 folks). The "Bunkhouse" was sure a nice change from the usual motel rooms one finds, and your four-legged friends will all enjoy their home-away-from-home too! Both Vic and Penny are quite delightful folks.". . .(4/6/05) - "Nice clean facilities! Thanks!". . .(7/5/05) - "After having a blowout with three horses on the trailer, I had to turn back to Amarillo to get a spare. Since it was late in the evening, I needed some place to keep my horses. This was the happiest experience of my day. My hosts were extremely friendly and helpful! Thanks a bunch!". . .(7/31/05) - "Well equipped facilities. The only drawback would be a small parking area once it begins to fill up.". . Editor's Note: The owners have enlarged their trailer parking space since these travelers stayed and more recent travelers say there is now ample room for parking and turnaround.. . . .(7/31/05) - "Easy to find. Stalls were knee deep in shavings and very clean. Bunk house was very nice. Would stay again.". . .(9/26/05) - "Very close freeway access. Bunk house was small but clean and adequate. Was great to stay right with the horses. Penny made special arrangements for our after hours arrival. Lights on, everything easy. Excellent trailer space.". . .(1/15/06) - "Have overnighted here many times. Great place, great people. Makes the trip a pleasure. I highly recommend Happy Tracks.". . .(11/9/06) - "Convienent on-off highway, great folks, not secured nor gated, but positive feedback overall.". . .(1/2/07) - "Very nice people, very nice stalls. Very convenient location. They were very nice to take us in on only a few hrs notice. Tara.". . .(2/10/07) - "Our family has been staying here for over 25 years and it is one of the best places to feel safe about our horses.". . .(3/25/08) - "Penny & Vic were very helpful. It was uncomplicated. My mule was happy with the stall/run.". . .(5/16/08) - "Penny is an absolutely wonderful person - she was very welcoming. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we could not stay, as I didn't realize there would be no other horses staying there while my horse was there... I just got over a colic scare after my horse was very stressed over being kept at 2 different facities that did not have any other horses in AZ during my 11-day trip, & I didn't want to take any chances by stressing her with a similar circumstances again. But I was very impressed with the barn facities - there was a large choice of stall facilities that were very well bedded & clean, & the bunkhouse appeared to be very cute. If there was another horse staying there that evening, or I was traveling with 2 or more horses, I would have stayed. Penny was very understanding about my situation & cancelled my reservations. I have marked "neutral" on 3 comments only due to the fact that I couldn't stay to experience those factors.". . . (7/14/09) - "Great place to stay - We stay coming and going to AZ for the winter. Always there when we get there with clean stalls and a place for us to plug in for the night. Stalls with pipe fence runs for the horses. Will stay again and again.". . . (10/30/09) - "My daughter and I travel alone with our horses from California to all parts of the States. We always feel safe for ourselves and our horses. Our family and friends have been staying here for over 30 years.". . . (11/1/11) - "Stalls were large and clean. I had two 6 month old fillys so I loved the stalls with a run so they could go in or out. RV hook up was well priced and easy to access. Over all it was a wonderful stay and would stop again.". . . (5/30/13) - "Would stay again, very good place.". . . (8/2/13) - "We are so thankful to the Plunk family. We had friends that borrowed our truck and camper for a horse show and became stranded at the Happy Tracks Horse Motel. Living out of state we didn't know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised to find that we were welcome to stay while our truck was being repaired. The Plunk family recommended a dealer and towing services that they had used. We really appreciated the help. Thanks again! Phillip & Diane Lamb."

Comments: (5/14/11) - "Linda was a wonderful host; we were able to make our reservation the day of our stay on our drive into Amarillo & she was genuinely empathetic in regards to our LONG haul cross country with a mare who HATES to trailer. Amira was in a huge outdoor paddock with loafing shed for $10/night~Amazing deal! And she was able to see other horses which made her happy. Though we didn't use her box stalls the barn was huge, stalls spacious and all of the grounds were clean. She also has a HUGE indoor arena on the grounds and regularly holds events, though we were the only visitors on this night. We didn't stay overnight on the grounds and it was a 9 mile drive back into town for hotel and food, but we felt VERY safe leaving our mare and in comparison to the other local horse motels we are very glad we chose Linda's place. Very safe and secure place off the beaten path. Would definitely recommend and would stay again! THANKS LINDA FOR ACCOMMODATING US & MAKING IT SO WONDERFULLY EASY!". . . (9/1/13) - "Manager was on site for arrival and stall was ready and clean. Will use this facility again, never had a worry about my horse and both manager and owner were helpful and friendly."

Comments: (Editor's Comments: Due to the many positive comments we've received on this facility, we've included only the most recent for space consideration).
(1/2/11) - "We were on our Honeymoon heading to New Mexico trail riding. Paulette and Don have an absolutely charming place. We loved it! We even made it our stop coming back home. They made our stay special. Their facility is very clean, well kept, and the bunkhouse made us feel like we were stepping into a "Southern Living Magazine." It is beautifully decorated. We will most definitely make it a regular stop and stay. With or without horses. Thank you so much.", , , (2/7/11) - "Stayed 01/28/11 - Highly recommend this facility!! Insulated barn kept our AZ horses warm in the frigid air they were not accustomed to, and our room was wonderful. Hosts could not have been more helpful and friendly. We will stay there anytime we head that direction with our horses!". . . (7/8/11) - "What an outstanding facility, exceeding all expectations. The room was a nice size, clean and very comfortable. The shared kitchen, covered patio, gates/security, large stalls with deep bedding, clean, cool barn, round pens offered, etc. Everything was perfect! Our hosts were accommodating, offering coffee at midnight, and breakfast snacks to take on the road. I wish I had a few days to hang out, as it would have been great fun. The price was extremely reasonable for what is offered. I will definitely stay again! Thank you!". . . (9/17/11) - "We stayed here both directions from Arabian Youth Nationals and loved our stays! Gracious hosts, great accommodations...we wish they were located closer to St Louis so we could come more often. We didn't have a rig with living quarters so we stayed in the hotel, and when we arrived at the host hotel (Sheraton) for our event, our girls said they wished they were back at Lone Star! Thanks for making our overnight stop so great!". . . (4/15/12) - "Amazing, amazing, amazing property! A must-stay. Paulette & family have thought of absolutely everything to make horse + human feel comfortable, safe, and cared for. Stayed here twice: used large round pen (awesome footing) and stalls (large, new, immaculate). Rooms are pristine, roomy, clean, include all amenities (even Direct TV). My dog could run free in the secured fenceline. Community kitchen a hoot, brand-new, and stocked with wide variety of goodies. We loved it! Will be back. Thank you!". . . (5/7/12) - "This was the best surprise we could have asked for! The owners are wonderful people, great hosts, the place is so well designed and very thoughtful of any possible needs you could have. I have never had such a good experience traveling with my animals; this was the best possible place to stay. It was an 11 on a scale of 1-10.". . . (5/26/12) - "What a beautiful facility! Thank you, again, for your hospitality. We will see you again! Sandy and John.". . . (6/8/12) - "Our hosts were friendly and made excellent recommendations for interesting sites and dining in the local area.". . . (8/12/12) - "Just a quick note to let you know how wonderful we thought your grounds were. After being on the road all day, your warm reception and great hospitality was much appreciated. You were both so accommodating to our needs, and we felt your facility was perfect. We found the grounds to be very clean, and thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast in the beautiful courtyard and screened in porch the following morning. It was clear that the horses felt very comfortable in their pens and enjoyed being out of the trailer overnight. Thank you very much for a wonderful place to "park" for a night. Warmly, The Assini and Henry Families.". . . (9/16/12) - "PERFECT! PERFECT! PERFECT! Absolutely the BEST place to stay! I also love the fact Paulette checks health papers and coggins for my horses safety.". . . (7/24/13) - "This is the best horse motel we have ever stayed. The stalls are large, clean and full of fresh shavings. We come through on our way to Arizona from Kentucky each year and Paulette is always accommodating. She responds quickly to voice mails or emails and will always try to find a stall for you. We highly recommend this great place to anyone traveling through Texas.". . . (8/15/13) - "Paulette and her husband are, quite simply, the best! Their facility is incredible, safe, neat, clean, I could go on and on. We have stayed there 3 times and each stay is better than the last.". . . (8/17/13) - "Our truck broke down on Sunday morning as we were pulling out. Paulette and Don treated us like family for the three days it took to get back on the road. Accomodations are first class for overnight stays, or longer if necessary. Top class operation and the best folks - no need to look for a better place in Amarillo .". . . (9/16/13) - "The facility has secure fencing all around the property with locked gates. The bed and breakfast was nicer than any motel Ive stayed in with the most comfortable beds and an enclosed yard to let the dog play. Very beautiful, can't wait to stay again. How nice to be able to stay with the horses. The horses loved it too.". . . (2/22/14) - "We did not end up staying with Paulette, but she returned an urgent call for assistance for a stranded friend with 2 horses on I 40. She had a truck and trailer and housing on standby in case they could not limp back to Amarillo. We are grateful for her help and assistance! Thanks Paulette!"

Comments: (10/25/02) - "HHH is a real find! The host & hostess are most accommodating and super friendly, going way out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The easy access to McKinney Roughs equestrian park makes HHH a treasured stop on our travels. We'll be coming back many times!". . .(10/28/02) - "Hollis and Beaux are the perfect hosts at Happy Horse Hotel! They work hard to make your stay perfect. The proximity to the fabulous McKinney Roughs horse park is also a plus.
But first, Happy Horse Hotel...the horse pens are nice and secure with water faucets adjacent and sand bedding (good for making horses "happy" after a good ride at the horse park!) There are good hookups for those with living quarters. Trees for shade, and Hollis's horses in a pasture nearby made my horse happy. The bungalow makes camping luxurious - I have stayed there during a hot spell as well as a cool spell, and was cool/cozy both times. The outdoor shower bower(totally private and lovely) was welcome and made me feel like a wood elf. The "privy" was the most elegant privy I have ever seen, complete with candles, propane heat, reading materials, and a wooden toilet seat! Inside the bungalow is a very comfortable king size bed, ac/heat, refrigerator, art, and a wonderful reading chair and light that I used (with a glass of wine) after my long ride, shower, and dinner.
The McKinney Roughs horse park has some of the most beautiful trails I have yet to see in Texas - riding along the Colorado River through the shade trees and then down into the river to cool off provided some of the most peaceful riding I have ever done. This park offers hills, wooded trails, and Hill Country views, and is quickly getting popular with Central Texas riders. This makes the Happy Horse Hotel a perfect place to stay since you can get discount park coupons from Hollis, and then use the one mile ride down the nice road a good warm up/cool down for a super day on the trail (or trailer up to the park!)
Thank you Hollis and Beaux for having the vision and motivation to create a true "happy horse hotel!"
(11/3/02) - "This was a great experience...very country..The owners were extremely friendly..We were going to ride but weather did not permit. Next time we will and there will be a next time! We were treated just like we were "next door neighbors.". . .(12/10/04) - "Great little country place close to Austin with excellent trail boss, fenced riding area, and guest cottage and set up with groups in mind. Friendly, knowledgeable and fun place.". . .(4/24/08) - "Fun place to visit. Nearby McKinney Roughs Park for horse riding (only dry days) is great!". . . (7/9/12) - "I love this place, its my favorite horsey home away from home, and there is great riding at McKinney Roughs two miles up the road!"

Comments: (3/15/05) - "We had a wonderful (too short) stay at the Ranch Bunkhouse. It was a tremendously nice facility with a well-stocked apartment, full kitchen, plenty of books, videos, even board games!! We want to stay longer next time.". . .(10/5/05) - "Larry & Michelle's Ranch Bunkhouse is a 5-Star facility! We didn't want to tell anyone about it because we want it all for ourselves! Once people hear about this awesome B&B, L & M will be booked 52 weekends of the year. The rides are spectacular, the accommodations are the best for horses & people alike! We LOVE The Ranch Bunkhouse!". . . (10/25/05) - "Ranch Bunkhouse was so welcoming that it immediately felt like home. Great facilities for the horses and beautiful land to ride. Thanks so much for providing such a wonderful place to stay.". . .(5/13/07) - "Nice facility and friendly, helpful host. The guesthouse was very nice and fully stocked. (9/10/13) - "We Love the Bunkhouse and try to do weekends away here 2 times a year. The riding is to DIE for!"

Comments: (8/15/14) - "We kept our two mares at Flour Bluff Boarding for a few days. Our girls were very happy and had plenty of grass and hay. The paddock was perfect and even better than expected. There was a shaded shower stall to cool our girls off after our 5 hour ride on the beach. Tracy, the host, was very kind and accommodating. We will definitely be repeat customers.". . . (8/15/14) - "Tracy and family are wonderful! Great place to board-- short term or long term! You wont be disappointed!". . . (8/16/14) - "I have boarded with Tracy for over 3 years and have loved it. Though not fancy, it's a comfortable place with good sand footing in the large arena and safe turnout. Tracy has been amazingly accommodating as I have had to make many dietary changes for my insulin-resistant, hard-to-keep TBxWB. She also cheerfully puts up with this horse's cranky moods where one must beware of either end of him. When I can't make it out to the barn, I know my horse is being well cared for.". . . (8/16/14) - "I boarded with Tracy for over two years and my horse and I loved her. She is responsible and treats each horse as if they were her own. We miss you!"

Comments: (6/2/05) - "Due to an unexpected blow out on our horse trailer we found it necessary to find a place to put our horses up in the Dallas, TX area. Christina went out of her way to make space available for our two horses, found a tire store and recommend lodging all within a few miles of her barn. She went out of her way to make an unexpected delay in our travels a minor inconvenience."

Needless to say, the $20 we paid for RV space did not ensure us of a good night's rest after being on the road for twelve hours."

Comments: (7/7/06) - "Easy off I-10. We were located close to food and lodging but stayed in our trailer at their hook-ups. We were able to turn our horses out in their coverd arena before putting them in their stall. Nice place; will return." . . .(7/7/06) - "Thanks for a great stay. I was able to wash my horse and exercise him before my show in Houston. Easy to get to. Right off I-10.". . .(11/4/07) - "Nice facility, clean stalls and plenty of room for the horses. Stalls are covered with one side of the building open; but the weather is nice enough that this made for perfect conditions. Only one that checked our coggins out of four stops, that is in my opinion great; don't have to worry about sick animal staying there. Host was quite friendly and nice to talk to. I would definitely stay here again!". . . (2/13/09) - "The owner might want to take a drive from the interstate to the facility looking through the eyes of a newcomer. It might account for 'no shows'. Losing the junk cars might be a good idea as well. The owner was great, helpful and attentive, but her facility is tired and needs some serious work. And it would be helpful if the roosters had their internal body clocks reprogrammed off eastern daylight savings time. We could not tell you if there were food or lodging nearby, we got there late due to accident traffic and left early since sleep was not an option once the roosters started. The facility is very easy to get to and impossible to lose, so getting there in the dark is no problem.". . . (8/17/09) - "We had truck problems and had to stay in the area 2 nights. The place was nice. We were able to have our truck repaired and the owners were great to help us with extra feed and shavings for the trip."

(Editor's Comments: Due to the large amount of feedback we have received on this facility, all of it positive, we've posted only some of the more recent comments. We thank everybody who has sent in so many nice comments.)
(7/24/08) - "Easy access off I-20 exit 557...nice barn and clean stalls.Beautiful CLEAN and SPOTLESS bunkhouse.Outside shower available. Scott and his wife are "GOOD PEOPLE"... what more can you ask for? Give them a call and enjoy your stay!". . . (7/29/08) - "Scott and his family did an excellent job accommodating us and our horses on a late request. Their facilities were clean and well kept and the bunk house is one of the nicest ones I've seen on the road. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a place east of Dallas/Fort Worth and close to I-20 to call Scott. Thanks for the stay!". . . (11/1/09) - "This is an excellent facility for horse and humans. It was, by far, the best "barn and bed" I stayed in on my haul from TX to VA. If I had to, I would go extra miles to stay here. The "bunkhouse" was clean and neat, airconditioned and heated. The bed was most comfortable. My mare was happy in her "bed" too. The owners are GOOD PEOPLE. Thank you Scott and Helen.". . . (1/12/10) - "Scott saved us from truck trouble on the coldest day in 14 yrs. Even helped us find an outstanding mechanic who fixed the botched repair that the first place did earlier that day. The bunk house was outstanding; clean, comfortable and warm. Stall and barn were the same. The first ones to call if you need overnight stabling. Wonderful people. Super dogs. Especially Smurf! Made us feel like friends. Thanks Again.". . . (8/23/11) - "Despite having to roll in at sunset we were welcomed by a whole crew of helping hands. Before I could turn around my trailer had the manure removed, water was in the stall, and people were asking "what can I do to help". The RV hook up worked great, with an outdoor light provided to help get everything set in the dark. The whole family was fantastic. They even provided playmates for my two daughters, they are still pen pals today! We had a wonderful stay and hope to stop by and say hi again someday!". . . (11/22/11) - "Wonderful hospitality, very clean and great location! We were greeted with a smile at 2:30 A.M. We would most definitely stay again. Thanks Scott! Juan & Alicia". . . (11/29/11) - "Mr. Scott was extemely helpful with a trailer hook-up problem. Excellent hosts.". . . (1/5/12) - "We were so pleasantly surprised. This is the first time we have stayed somewhere and bunked our horses. The stables were so nice and clean and our cabin was so good! It was so warm and inviting. We were very happy and had a good family weekend riding the local trail and staying here.". . . (1/12/12) - "We were more than satisfied with Casa Cassel. So much so that we have been there twice now! The host was very welcoming and helpful. The stalls were clean and ready for me upon arrival. I loved the bunk house! It was very clean and had everything that I could have needed. I highly recommend Casa Cassel for anyone traveling thru east Texas.". . . (9/16/12) - "After a 10 hour trip we were greeted (in the rain) by a VERY friendly family. Our mare was escorted to her clean stall, our trailer was cleaned and the very clean, spacious bunkhouse was ready. The Cassel's were very accommodating even as to lend us their truck to go get something to eat in town so we would not have to unhook our rig. WAY, WAY over the top!!. The next morning Scott let me put our mare out to run, roll and stretch. Our dog even felt safe and at home! We would highly recommend Casa Cassel II to anyone needing a place for their horse or themselves!". . . (10/13/12) - "We were traveling with 3 horses and 3 dogs. All our animals had large, clean stalls and pen. We had a good spot to park our rig. We don't need to look for another horse motel by traveling east Texas. Thanks to Mrs. Helen and Mr. Scott and special thanks to Brendy, their granddaughter.". . . (12/2/12) - "Scott and Helen were the most gracious and accommodating hosts we could have ever asked for. After a long and tiring haul from Colorado, and calling them the morning of our arrival to see if they could accommodate 8 horses, including a stallion, they not only answered their phone, but they made any adjustments necessary to get us in and get us comfortable. We could not have hoped to have a better 24 hour stay! I am forever grateful and appreciative of Scott and Helen for their openness and helpfulness - they even helped us clean out the horse trailers!". . . (5/5/13)- "Scott was at the gate when we arrived. We have a 57 foot rig so it was a little tricky pulling in. Scott was flexible and let us turn our horses out rather than using stalls. We decided to stay in the super comfortable and cute bunk house that Helen decorated for guests. It is worth staying in even if you have a LQ trailer. Thank you Scott and Helen for the wonderful hospitality. We hope to see you again!". . . (5/14/13) - "Scott and Helen were lovely; very helpful and imformative. Thank you very much.". . . (5/20/13) -"Lovely people. I would stay there again. Thank you Scott and Helen.. . . (6/27/13) - "What a great place to stay for your horses and yourself. Scott was so very helpful with everything from feeding to helping with my trailor. The stalls were great and the round pens were a bonus. The bunk house was really nice and spacious with a personal touch added. I would be pleased to recommend this Horse Motel to all.". . . (7/29/13)- "Enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to lodging with them next year.". . . (10/16/13) - "Very nice facility. We had mechanical problems. We were scheduled for arrival around 7:00 pm. Called and told owner we would be late. He said no problem. Just call when you are 30 minutes out. Called back and said would be 1:00 am. He said no problem and was waiting when we arrived. Fresh water and shavings in stall. Really nice safe stalls.". . . (10/3/13) - "Spent four days on the road at four different horse hotels and this was the most professionally run and friendliest of the bunch. Scott and Helen were great hosts.". . . (3/5/14) - "I needed a place to stay as the weather suddenly changed and freezing temperatures made camping impossible. Scott and his grand daughter Brenda helped with directions and met me after dark in the middle of an ice storm. My horses were so happy to get into the warm, dry barn and we stayed until the road conditions improved enough to drive home. Scott and Helen went way beyond helpful.". . . (7/12/14)- "Great place to stay near Dallas for horses, dogs, and people. Super friendly hosts, rooms just like at home, and spotless barn. Highly recommended!". . . (7/18/14) - "Fantastic experience, friendly folks and great supporters of our military. This was the perfect place to keep our gelding in our cross country move. They were friendly and very accommodating.". . . (8/11/14) - "Easy to find, great directions. Wonderful host, helpful, friendly and courteous. Recommend highly, a good experience. Will use them again!". . . (8/13/14) - "Scott made me feel as if I was part of the family. Very warm and welcoming and extremely helpful. He even fixed something on my trailer that was very above and beyond. I really enjoyed my stay and can make a strong recommendation without any hesitation! Thank you Scott and herd.". . . (8/18/14) - "This is an amazing place to stay!! Very hospitable and they make sure your horses are well taken care of!!"

Comments: (7/6/13) - "It was one of the cleanest stops on our trip from WA to TX. My horses loved the large turnout pen, it even had a cover in the corner. The stalls were large and clean and well bedded. One of the cleanest barns I've ever been in. They vacuumed it nightly! The hospitality of Kim and William was wonderful. Kelly, the barn manager, met us late at night and was over the top helpful. Helping us unload and get settled. Riata Ranch was close to Wal-Mart, Tractor Supply, gas stations, and many fast food restaurants. Cagle Steaks had one of the best steaks I've EVER eaten! The Barn Apartment was perfect for us and the kids, had everything we needed. Overall, a wonderful, restful place to stay. Thanks again and we will be back on our next road trip.". . . (12/12/13) - "Kelly is a super host and worked with us when we arrived late. Great facility for the horses. Needs a bit of winter updating. But would stay here again. Thanks Kelly!"

Comments: (3/20/07) - "Large, clean, well bedded, well lit stalls for our horses and a charming, clean, well stocked barn apartment for us. The Elliots, like their ranch, five star all the way. Try the Marietta Mercantile for the very best steak you'll ever sink your teeth into. Then check your apartment firdge the next morning, you're likely to find everything for a satisfying breakfast and maybe some of Frances' fabulous homemade banana bread.". . . (3/30/09) - "Charles and Frances run a five-star horse motel for horse and owner alike. Accommodations are surprisingly beautiful and comfortable including flat-screen TV, full kitchen and bath. Horse stalls are clean and well supplied. Breakfast foods are delicious, especially Frances' homemade banana bread. Their TX hospitality parallels the peaceful northeast TX setting.". . . (7/12/09) - "The owners went out of their way to take us in. The property, barn and apartment are all gorgeous. We would chose to stay there again, should we find the need.". . . (12/28/09) - "The Elliot's were awesome and so is the ranch! Would highly recommend and would stay again if the need arises! Very nice apartment and stalls!". . . (3/11/11) - "Mr. and Mrs. Elliott are very sweet. I have had the opportunity to stay with them twice. The room is very clean and comfortable. This time around my horses seemed to remember the place and were very at home within minutes. Always bananas, banana bread and milk waiting for you. Always a smile coming and going. Would stay there anytime.". . . (5/13/11) - "Well our trip started out terrible and we knew several hours into the trip that we were not going to make our intended stop. Charles & Frances took us in with just a few hours notice and even waited up till after midnight to greet us!! They were Phenominal hosts!! My husband, myself and our 2 small children chose to stay in the barn apartment, which was immaculate, and very accommodating. And Frances even had a loaf of banana bread waiting for us on the counter when we arrived!! My mare was in a HUGE grassy turnout, just behind the barn and she LOVED it! Definitely recommend to EVERYONE going through this area and we would absolutely stay again!! Very private and quiet facility, felt very safe and secure! A VERY BIG THANKS TO CHARLES & FRANCES!". . . (11/12/11) - "The lodging was nicer than my own home. The stalls for the horses are across the alley from the motel room. Frances and Charles (the owners) are great hosts. Frances surprised us with a fresh loaf of banana nut bread. What a treat. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone traveling with or without a horse.". . . (11/13/11) - "This was my first time to stay at Chula Vista with four of my Miniature Donkeys. We stayed on our way to Kentucky and again on our return. It is now ranked as A-1 top places to stay on my list. Everything was perfect and the apartment so near my donkeys was like a dream come true. Wish I could have that at home! The Elliotts made us feel right at home. It will be my regular stop when heading east from now on.". . . (3/4/13) - "This place is FABULOUS! What a great guest cabin, really well done and comfortable. The yummy banana bread welcome in the fancy kitchen was well needed. The horse facilities were just right; outdoor stalls in a safe paddock so the horses could stretch and relax as well. Nice folks, great place! A+++!". . . (7/5/13) - "Chula Vista was a wonderful stop on our long trip- safe and comfortable for horses and humans with both indoor stalls and turnout available for the horses and a lovely, fully functional apartment in the barn with internet, cable and a full kitchen with all the equipment. The hosts were wonderfully helpful and kind, and her banana bread was wonderful, even when we had to leave before the sun rose. I hope I get a chance to stop in again!"

Comments: (1/1/10) - "Thank you so much Cheryl for everything! We didn't get in until 4am and you were so accommodating. Your barn was perfect, thank you for having them ready for us! We especially loved that we could stay on site in your little guest house, it was like a little honeymoon suite! We will definitely be back and we really enjoyed staying at your place! Jeanne.". . . (4/27/10) - "Darling bunk house. Very nice stable. Large pastures, round pen, etc. All I could ask for in a an overnight stop for our horse and ourselves. A definite repeat for us.". . . (7/13/10) - "We had such a pleasant stay at this facility and will return as well as refer to our friends! The hosts were very friendly and helpful! They made our stay very comfortable with their hospitality! Thanks!". . . (8/10/10) - "Cheryl & Steve could not have been better hosts. We had an electrical problem with our trailer brakes...they got on the phone and located a neighbor who diagnosed and fixed the problem. The barn was clean...our horses were comfortable...we felt that we made new friends. Gene & Sandy.". . . (12/14/10) - "The host went out of his way to have everything just perfect. There was availablity to everything we needed from the best food places to the best vet. We felt very comfortable and so did our horses. Great place.". . . (6/21/12) - "The hospitality we experienced at The Bunkhaus was simply unsurpassed. Our two horses were very comfortable and definitely enjoyed their time in the pasture as well as in the very roomy stalls and turnout area. We were able to ride out from the property onto very quiet country roads with cattle visible in the gently rolling fields. The entire property was well taken care of and the owners made us feel very much at home. The cabin was very comfy, which was important to us since we stayed for a few weeks. Located in a serene pastoral setting, The Bunkhaus is minutes away from shopping, wonderful restaurants, and the historic towns of Gruene and New Braunfels. We truly could not have asked for a better place for our animals and us to spend three weeks at. We highly recommend The Bunkhaus to anyone travelling with horses. Thank you Cheryl and Steve!". . . (2/11/13) - "Awesome help trying to accommodate us while traveling. Cheryl was so nice on the phone and helpful! Very helpful to those 'in a bind.'". . . (8/8/13) - "The Bed & Bunk is perfect! The location is great and the sunsets are addictive. We stayed here for three weeks waiting for our house to be ready. We felt like we were on a mini-vaction. Cheryl and Steve are awesome people. Couldn't ask for a better host. We find ourselves missing the quaintness of the Bed & Bunk Haus! Thanks so much to them for making us feel like family.". . . (12/4/13) - "I can't recommend Cheryl highly enough! We arrived at 1:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning and there was Cheryl standing at the gate in the freezing cold with a flashlight to make sure we didn't miss our turn. She is the most friendly, helpful person you could ask for. I highly, highly, highly recommend her!". . . (2/16/14) - "The horse facilities are very neat and clean. The cottage has a full kitchen and is very cute and comfortable. We arrived on Valentine's Day and Cheryl, the owner, had champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us!". . . (3/22/14) - "One of the best places we have ever stayed. The Bunk Haus was cozy and filled with amenities, and the most comfortable bed! Even has laundry (with provided detergent). Will stay there again when traveling thru!"

Comments: (12/16/13) - "Great hosts and facilities! I attended a clinic at Horseman's Ranch last weekend and the weather was awful, but my horses were happy in the roomy, new indoor stalls and I was cozy in the bunkhouse. The accommodations for both horse and human were just what we needed and expected; roomy, clean, easily accessible. However, what sets this horse motel apart from the others and is the best amenity is the wonderful hospitality of the hosts. Thank you again, Kimberly and Danny. I would definitely recommend your place and will see you again.". . . (3/7/14) - "Fantastic! No worries leaving our horses with Kimberly & Danny. Beautiful facility and the Sorensons couldn't have been more accommodating. This is the place to stop for rest and excellent care for your animals.". . . (4/1/14) - "I have been traveling with my horses for the last 14 years to Florida and back; twice a year I make the 5 day trip so I would say I have some experience to give credibility to my comments. This is THE BEST layover experience I have ever had! Starting with the friendly, extremely horse knowledgeable professional owners all the way to the safe barn and overnight bunk house. This stop deserves the highest 5 star rating or the highest Michelin rating equivalent for overnight horse motels ever.". . . (5/3/14) - "Thank you Kimberly and Danny for a wonderful overnight stay. The apartment was great and you made all of us very welcome. My horse enjoyed his hydro bath and big Stall. Really enjoyed our stay and wishing you all the best."

(Editor's Comments: Due to the large amount of feedback we have received on this facility, all of it positive, we've posted only some of the more recent comments. We thank everybody who has sent in so many nice comments.)
(3/2/10) - "An amazing place. Very happy after a long days drive to be greeted late at night by Sam and was pleasantly surprised that everything was ready for our two horses. All we had to do was unload them and walk them to their stalls. Our trip took longer than first had planned and Sam waited up for us until 11:30pm. The next night we were at a facility that was horribly run and had not one thing ready for us after a month long reservation. Thank you Sam so much for your hospitality and friendliness. If we ever come through texas again we would be sure to drive a little out of our way to stay with you again! Thanks so much!. . . (6/22/10) - "Sam is very personable and helpful. Facilities were excellent, and we felt very comfortable leaving our horses there overnight after a long day's haul. We will definitely stay here again. The stalls are large and safe, with plenty of water and good hay provided.". . . (7/4/10) - "Their listing here refers to an upcoming "bunkhouse" for guests on the premises. That descriptions definitely does not do their guest room any sort of justice! I would never have stayed there in a "bunkhouse," but the new on-premises guest room is lovely, and it was my favorite overnight stay on a trip which started in Florida and ended in Colorado. The oversize stalls are beautiful, and are situated on a bluff overlooking Wichita Falls. I'm sure there is always a nice breeze for the horses, and there wasn't an insect pest around, despite my having been there at the end of June. Sam Cruse welcomed me and made me feel totally at home and welcome, as did the other few people I encountered there. My horse and I so enjoyed our stop there; I have no doubt we'll return.". . . (10/31/10) - "OMG, if you want chocolates on the pillow, stay somewhere else, if you want a clean safe fun experience, where your horse is the top concern, this is it. They even mucked my trailer out before we left! We are going to look for rides in the area just to stay there again. Perfect place for the traveling horseman.". . . (12/14/10) - "Sam and Laurie are great people. The stay is great. It has everything you need. Sam and Laurie are great hosts. The horses are secure and {the facility is} very relaxing for them. Thank you for everyting.". . . (3/29/11) - "I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who is needing a place to stay along with facilities for your horses. It was so nice to have your horse right out your door with a facility that was absolutely magnificant! I will definitely be back to enjoy the accommodations again. Thank you, Chelsea.". . . (12/2/11) - "We stay with Sam every year for the Thanksgiving barrel race in Wichita Falls. It has always been one of our most favorite places to stay! This year we decided to stay in the new bunkhouse, and I must say that Sam outdid himself! Our horses, as well as ourselves, were extremely pampered and I HIGHLY recommend Legacy Park to anyone who wants a good night sleep and great hospitality!". . . (12/11/11) - "Huge stalls, friendly owner, great place.". . . (12/17/11) - "Sam and Laurie are the best people in the world. The place is excellent to stay at. Its nice to stay when you can feel right at home. Horses loved it. Thanks for everything.". . . (3/26/12) - "Sam was terrifically welcoming, stayed up late to see me safely in. Very easy access, right behind Shell station as described. Plenty of room for big rigs, but the beautiful B&B makes me want to return just for the fun of it!". . . (5/14/12) - "Sam was ASTOUNDING! From cleaning out my trailer (even with me protesting that I would do it) to checking on my horses personally and making sure us humans had dinner, Sam just went above and beyond. Will definitely be staying there again!". . . (8/2/12) - "Easy location right off the interstate. Big stalls gave the horse lots of room to move around. Owner on site and very attentive to the horses. Would definitely stay here again.". . . (9/12/12) - "I'll be staying here even when I don't pass through Texas with horses. Sam and Laurie were the most gracious and warm hosts I've ever met. Their equine facilities are top notch and the B&B was lovely. I adjusted my trip to make sure I got to stay here on the way through and back. My first night arrival was at midnight (4 hours behind schedule) and the welcome I received was beyond hospitable..I felt like I was home. PERFECT place to board and bed! Thanks again, Mr. and Mrs. Cruse.". . . (11/8/12) - "Really really nice people! We arrived late the last visit and the stalls were ready and waiting for us! Clean, full water buckets and doors open. The horses loved it and the facility was spotless!". . . (6/9/13) - "We had a wonderful night here. The bed and breakfast was awesome. The boarding facilities are spectacular, and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. Mr. Cruse even came out to meet us and escort us to the facilities after a very long day of traveling; we had a little trouble finding it because we were so tired. Thank you so very much.". . . (8/12/13) - "Fabulous. Great facility. The staff and other guests were even better than the facility.". . . (8/29/13) - "This place is top notch. Owners beyond friendly! Can't wait to come back. A definite spot for layovers.". . . (10/16/13) - "Sam and his wife greeted us upon our arrival. Fresh water and hay already in the stalls. As soon as horses were unloaded Sam was cleaning out the trailer. Nice people, great place. Could have stayed a couple of days just to relax.". . . (2/6/14) - "Amazing stay. Went above and beyond what we expected. We plan to stay here again when traveling through Texas."

Comments: (10/4/11) - "Owners were available via email and telephone prior to arrival for precise directions to property and even arranged to have their farrier come out a couple hours after we got there since my horse had pulled a shoe the night before in a different state where it was impossible to find a farrier to come out until two days later (!) Falconwood's farrier was punctual and professional. Our horses had clean stalls, fresh water, and anything else they needed. Mr. Everett was very hospitable and showed us around the property, which is gated and in a lovely location. The apartment was clean and had everything anyone would need for a comfortable stay. We (as well as our animals) enjoyed overnighting at Falconwood after an 8 hour drive and highly recommend the facility to anyone travelling through the area with horses.". . . (11/12/11) - "My gelding is 17.1 hands so I was thrilled the stall was an over-sized one (12'x14' ?). Host was very friendly and helpful. Lots of hotels around and a few food places. Facility is gated. Would definitely recommend this horse hotel!". . . (6/4/13) - "I boarded my horse at Falconwood in Winnie, TX while spending a few days riding on the beach south of Winnie. The facility is top notch and the people are wonderful, they take care of your horse like it was their own. I felt completely at ease leaving my horse and trailer there while visiting in Houston. The people live on the property and there is a security gate at the entrance. I recommend them if you are in the area.". . . (12/12/13) - "Great facility and host. Waited for our late arrival. Thank you.". . . (5/24/14) - "This was horse nirvana. It was so nice my horses didn't want to leave. Great accommodations and everything we needed was within one mile of the farm."
