The owner of trhe facility states that she was present when the group of travelers arrived and took photos of them since it was such a large, interesting group. The recently installed RV hookups were wired wrong which caused damage to at least one of the trailers, one of which was reimbursed for the damage. Hard feelings between the owner and some of the group regarding compensation for damage were created as a result . An electrician re-wired the hookups as soon as the problem was discovered to preclude any future problems.

Sadly, their facility is less than 80 ft from the 40 and semis are flying by every few seconds. Also, there is no fence between the stalls and the road so if your horse gets loose, it could be ugly. Nerve wracking putting your horse in the trailer with all the noise and truck lights whizzing by. Not good for nervous horses.". . . (5/1/22) - "The facility is literally right off of I-40. It makes it very convenient to unload, throw them in a stall, and let them rest. The Stalls are heavily bedded. The stalls in the paddock runs are very secure but the place is not fenced around it so if you have freaky horses you probably wouldn't want to stay here because it's not fenced in. We really like the facility and we definitely would stay here again; it is a lovely couple. Penny and Vic are very sweet people. They have a nice flat, level place to park your trailer. Our horses were quite comfortable there and felt comfortable enough to lay down and get a good night's rest. I would definitely stay here again. We liked how convenient it was with easy access just under the bridge to a cheaper gas station.". . . (7/22/23) - "They were absolutely amazing! My horse is allergic to normal bedding. They were very accommodating and had a stall cleaned out for me for my own bedding for my gelding. Also had a colic scare. Thankfully, I caught it before it got serious but they helped me find an emergency vet to get my boy to as it was a weekend and everything was closed and we were still an hour out. They called the vet to let them know I was on my way and sent me the address and still kept the stalls for me when we were done with the vet! They didn't need to do any of this, but they did and that's the kind of people I trust with my horses.". . . (3/15/24) - "Great place with clean bedded stalls. Comments: (10/25/02) - "HHH is a real find! The host & hostess are most accommodating and super friendly, going way out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The easy access to McKinney Roughs equestrian park makes HHH a treasured stop on our travels. We'll be coming back many times!". . .(10/28/02) - "Hollis and Beaux are the perfect hosts at Happy Horse Hotel! They work hard to make your stay perfect. The proximity to the fabulous McKinney Roughs horse park is also a plus. But first, Happy Horse Hotel...the horse pens are nice and secure with water faucets adjacent and sand bedding (good for making horses "happy" after a good ride at the horse park!) There are good hookups for those with living quarters. Trees for shade, and Hollis's horses in a pasture nearby made my horse happy. The bungalow makes camping luxurious - I have stayed there during a hot spell as well as a cool spell, and was cool/cozy both times. The outdoor shower bower(totally private and lovely) was welcome and made me feel like a wood elf. The "privy" was the most elegant privy I have ever seen, complete with candles, propane heat, reading materials, and a wooden toilet seat! Inside the bungalow is a very comfortable king size bed, ac/heat, refrigerator, art, and a wonderful reading chair and light that I used (with a glass of wine) after my long ride, shower, and dinner. The McKinney Roughs horse park has some of the most beautiful trails I have yet to see in Texas - riding along the Colorado River through the shade trees and then down into the river to cool off provided some of the most peaceful riding I have ever done. This park offers hills, wooded trails, and Hill Country views, and is quickly getting popular with Central Texas riders. This makes the Happy Horse Hotel a perfect place to stay since you can get discount park coupons from Hollis, and then use the one mile ride down the nice road a good warm up/cool down for a super day on the trail (or trailer up to the park!) Thank you Hollis and Beaux for having the vision and motivation to create a true "happy horse hotel!". . . The horses are always fed early enough so they’re done eating their grain by the time we get on the road. They enjoy the large, two-acre, grass turn-out which is perfect for a stretch after a long ride in the trailer. Overall, R & R is great, and Lisa and her family are wonderful! We always try to stop there when we need a layover.". . . (7/11/25) - "What a blessing it was to find R&R! Moving to a new state is nerve wrecking enough, but my family and I really needed to make two separate trips which meant horses on trip one needed cared for before we could make the trek again. Two of my horses stayed at R&R for a little over a week. They were well cared for, had great accommodations and were very happy when we picked them up. The owners were very nice, helpful and understanding of our situation. I couldn’t say enough good things or recommend R&R any more!!"

Comments: (3/27/20) - "I live in Michigan and was traveling with my good friend Mandy Seder, owner of Pony Express Feed And Transport of Michigan. We traveled and hauled horses and dogs to Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, and more. We were looking for a place to keep four horses overnight so they could be outside, stretch, relax, and regroup before we continued on our journey through more states. We ran late and got in touch with Rancho Del Sol and they were super accommodating! They greeted us with open arms super early in the morning, were not mad at all, and were available to offer anything we may have needed help with. The facilities are great and Rancho Del Sol offered clean, awesome sized stalls and turnouts as different options for our equine needs. In the morning, we were greeted warmly by the owners and they again offered to help us with anything we needed! We made a great decision staying at Rancho Del Sol, because the horses were happy, relaxed, and ready to continue after a much needed break at a place they could unwind and relax! I highly recommend staying at Rancho Del Sol, and will be sure to stay again the next time we travel their direction!". . . (6/19/20) - "We stayed here rather than at the crowded facilities at the nearby Four States Fairgrounds in Texarkana where we were competing at a large barrel race. There were many options for our horses including bedded stalls or small, medium, and large pens. We opted for pens so our horses could move around a bit after a long trailer ride. There were plenty of RV hookups and even an indoor arena. We will definitely return!". . . (11/9/20) - "Rancho Del Sol was a nice stop on our way to a competition. The host and her mother were very accommodating. They offered the option of stalls, outdoor or indoor pens for our horse and mule. Plenty of hookups were available for our trailer. If you want to stay and ride; they have an indoor and outdoor arena. Decided to stay there again on our way home as well. The animals were happy and relaxed both times!!!!". . . The indoor stalls are impeccable--very clean and everything was set up for us when we arrived. In the morning, one of Todd's ranch hands even cleaned out the back of my trailer to help me get back on the road quickly. Highly recommend!!"

Right beside the horse accommodations is a 12 space RV park, within a short walking distance to the horses. They are very close to I-10 but not within earshot of the traffic. Rena and Raul are gracious hosts and have a great facility.". . . (4/27/21) - "Rena and Raul are some of the best hosts ever. Pulling in, I was so tired and they open gates as you pull in, grab the wheel barrel and fork so you can get your trailer cleaned and always have a smile for you to brighten your day. The downtown is only 5 miles away. Ranch was very accessible to the 290 on our way to Austin. We will stay at Media Luna again.". . . Close access off of Interstate 35 and Highway 82 in Gainesville. It is easy to enter in and exit out of the gate with our large trailer. There are many acres of flat pasture to park and turn around. There was 30 amp hookup and water for our LQ stay, yet we stayed in the adorable tiny house that was peaceful, comfortable and clean. The grounds are beautiful with the huge pecan trees and picnic table under the arbor.". . . (1/22/24) - "This is a must stay at location when traveling through on I-35 in north Texas. The gated entrance is easy to enter and exit with many acres to turn around in the sandy loam soil pasture. The barn has easy access to water on a reel and the stalls are well done. Hay is available for purchase. Turnout as well as stalls were used for my horses and they were well rested in the morning. The guest house is just right and everything was provided since Melanie is an AirBnB superhost, which is evident. WiFi and cellular coverage in the area is great. Many places to eat are available and close to the horse event spaces. I enjoyed staying here more than parking side by side at the horse event center down the road on Highway 82. Long term stay is also offered, which will be reserved soon. RV 30 amp and water will be reserved when I bring my LQ next time.". . . (11/25/24) - "The host, Melanie, reached out quickly to our inquiy about overnighting with a young horse on a long trip. The horse settled in well - the place had a variety of options - nice stalls, round pen, or turnout with shelter. My youngster was very happy to be in the turnout area to relax and regroup in the middle of his 2,500 mile trip to his new home in Florida. He arrived home in good shape thanks!". . . We cannot say enough about our one night stay here - Tomas and Teresa met us (even though we were late), on our 3rd night of a cross country moving trip with 3 horses. Circular, easy to turn around drive. Runs had stud paneling, perfect size for our guys, really nice box stalls at the back, exterior lighting, easy access hose, gorgeous views, quiet and peaceful, safe and secure. We could tell our horses were happy and felt safe. The word "bunk house" doesn't do the accommodations justice. The bunk house is all custom, multiple bunks from queen to twin, curtains forn privacy. Great AC for hot nights. There is a great room/kitchen with tons of space for a larger group, everything you could need. Bathrooms were well appointed, well beyond any expectations we had, better than some nice hotels! Lovely front porch for a quiet cup of coffee or afternoon libations. We stayed one extra day due to a horse issue, and we couldn't have asked for a better host and accommodations for that!!!! We would stay here with or without horses. This stay made our entire trip.". . . (5/25/23) - "Beautiful place! Nice stalls with runs. Very clean and well-kept. Property is immaculate. Nice large RV space with plenty of room for large trailer. The facility was well kept, easy to locate, well lit (even arriving close to midnight, we were able to locate everything we needed), the stalls and runs were clean, well-built, large, and most of all… safe! My horses don’t lay down much when we travel and all 3 of ours laid flat out for a good sleep! Full hookups allowed us to drain our tanks after being on the road and take a nice long shower. Our hosts, Thomas and his wife, were so sweet and accommodating and even came out to introduce themselves and help with our break down to leave. Manure cart and fork were there on site for easy cleanup. Water buckets and feed buckets are available if you want to use them as well as close water with a hose to make taking care of the horses quick and easy. We will definitely return and are happy to give recommendations to Double T for anyone needing a nice, safe place to stop. Our trailer is 45’ long and we were able to get into the facility fairly easily when accessing the property from the south side. There are railroad tracks coming from the north. It's right off 287, situated about an hour west of Wichita Falls and 2 hours and 20 min east of Amarillo. Would definitely recommend for an overnight or a horse vacation. Amilia is just the nicest, most accommodating host. We travel with our horses frequently and this is the best place we have had the pleasure of staying at. Definitely recommend!". . .
